Community Members Read Each Week to Elementary Students
Peabody, MA (February 2, 2009) - Forty-seven elementary classes are participating in the Peabody Education Council Guest Reader Program which sends bankers, doctors, teachers, business executives, city officials and adminstrators into Peabody schools for weekly visits. The program runs through May.

VOTE WITH YOUR KIDS on NOVEMBER 4
Peabody, MA (October 20, 2008) – School aged children in Peabody will be taking to the polls on November 4 alongside their friends, teachers, parents and other adults as a result of Kids Voting USA and the efforts of the Peabody Education Council (PEC).
Kids Voting polling stations, donated by the PEC and the Northshore Mall, will be open from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m at each Peabody voting location. Students will cast ballots on the same candidates and issues on which adults are voting. Peabody’s Kid Voting results will be tallied by City Hall and announced on the PEC website at http://www.peabodyedcouncil.com/.
Volunteers to staff the Kids Voting polling stations are being solicited by the PEC from Brooksby Village, the Torigian Community Life Center and the PVMHS National Honor Society. To volunteer, contact Mike Hawes at 978.536.4500.
The PEC teaches students about the election process and government by providing classroom curriculum and educational activities, such as a Voting Bookmark Design Contest for grade 5. Students in Peabody elementary schools recently created bookmarks to promote voting. The winning designs from each of the city’s eight public schools were selected and published on the PEC website at http://www.peabodyedcouncil.com/VoteBookmarks.html. The designs will also be displayed in the schools. A grand prize winning design will be selected on Election Day and published for distribution at the Peabody Institute Library.
Kids Voting USA is a national, non-partisan, non-profit program that strives to secure the future of democracy by educating and involving K-12 students, educators and families in the election process. For more information, go to http://www.kidsvotingusa.org/
